About The Old Howards:
In August of 2003, Dana
Stewart, Matt Murphy, Jeff Herring, and Johnny
Carlevale formed The Old Howards. Since then they have been taking New England's music
scene by storm.
The Old Howards
are a raw authentic rockabilly racket from Boston, Massachusetts. Although having a great similarity to Dana Stewart's Racketeers, The Old Howards have captured an aggressive yet
original authentic rockabilly sound that is all their own.
Each member of The Old
Howards adds their own original style to the band. Dana Stewart fronts the band with
his raw yet smooth vocal style. Matt Murphy adds intense slap bass along with, Jeff
Herring's rippin' guitar solos, and Johnny Carlevale's throttling rhythm guitar.
The
Old Howards first gig was at The Plough And Stars in Cambridge, Massachusetts on Sunday, August 3, 2003, and since then they have shared the stage with ex High Noon guitarist,
Sean Mencher of The Sean Mencher
Combo, North Carolina rockers Southern Culture On The Skids, and legendary surf guitarist Dick
Dale.
On Saturday, July 17,
2004, The Old Howards played Jake's Bar & Grille's 5th Anniversary Bash and one of Rhode Island's premier guitarists,
Dennis Kelly, joined them for their close-out set. The night featured
some of New England's top bands.
You can easily catch each member of The
Old Howards in other roots based projects. Dana Stewart plays drums with The
Stumbleweeds who are a female lead hanky tonk band featuring Jack Hanlon on up-right bass,
Dennis Kelly on lead guitar, and Lynette Lenker on lead vocals and rhythm
guitar. Matt Murphy will occassionaly tour with The Kings Of Nuthin'
and Jeff Herring currently plays pickin' lead guitar in an up and coming band
called The Two Timin' Three who capture the untamed fire and energy of wild rockabilly rhythms
blended with soulful honky tonk, hot jazz, jumpin' blues, and western swing featuring Shane Kiel of
The Sean mencher Combo and Eric Laufer
formerly of Eric & The O-Matics. Johnny Carlevale started
an R&B racket called The Broken Rhythm Boys. This is a quintet with former O-Matics
guitarist Dave Paul, former Skavoovie & The Epitones sax
player Ben Jaffe, up-right bassist Mike Fasulo, and drummer Adam
Furman.
